Folk Museum Complex

As a way to commemorate the famous author, the Martin Wickramasinghe Trust used the house in which the author was born as a source of inspiration for what became the Folk Museum Complex. The Folk Museum Complex is a rather special type of establishment which is surrounded by different species of trees and which is the home of various bird species as well. The house was restored together with the together with the ecosystem that surrounds it ,with the aim of transforming Koggala, the place that is described in most of Wickramasinghe's work, to a more tangible reality for those who have read his writings and those who are looking for a firsthand experience in the heart of the writer's stories. The legend of the house is a rather interesting one given the fact that this piece of architecture was able to survive two world wars. Nowadays it is the home of various artifacts belonging to the Sri Lankan culture.
