The Novel Genre



The word Novel derives from the Italian word called Novella. This word means new, news or the short story of something new. A novel is a book of long narrative in literary prose. Nowadays there is the option to gather a novel book on the World Wide Web or at a local library.

The novel genre historical roots are based in the fields of the medieval and early modern romance. To show a novel's artistic merits there needs to be a discussion of the plot, construction of the narrative, fascination of the character, the form reality is created in the works of fiction, etc. The majority of these requirements were introduced during the 16th and 17th centuries in order to provide fiction a justification outside the known field of factual history.

The European tradition of the novel genre of extended prose fiction has its roots in the tradition of medieval also called Romances. Most European languages make it clear by using the word Roman the same form English use the word Novel. The Novel term refers back to the making of short stories which remained part of the European oral culture of storytelling in the late 19th century. The early genre conflict between romances and novels
