Martin Wickramasinghe Trust Tsunami Relief Fund.

 
 

 

  
 

The Tsunami Relief Fund of the Martin Wickramasinghe Trust was established on 5 th January 2005 by the Martin Wickramasinghe Trust with a donation of Rs 500,000.00, to undertake relief and rehabilitation in Koggala and adjoining villages affected by the Tsunami that devastated the area on 26 th Dec 2004 .

 
  In response to our appeal monetary and material donations were received from Sri Lanka and abroad, with which the relief work was under taken.  
 

 

  
 

The reliefs granted were as follows :

 
     
 
1.
 Distribution of food items and clothing.
2.
 Supply of medicines and medical equipment.
3.

Reconstruction of a house for a displaced person at a cost of Rs 217,840.00.

4.
 Donation of computers, monitors and related equipment to 36 schools in the Habaraduwa Education Circuit, a
computer each to Divisional Council, the Education Office Habaraduwa and to the Paragoda Raja Maha Vihara Computer Training Centre.
5.

Donation of library books and exercise books worth Rs 52,800.00 to school children in the affected area.

Reconstruction and rehabilitation of Public and School Libraries in the affected area is being continued with the balance money left in the Tsunami Relief Fund. May we take this opportunity to inform you that the Martin Wickramasinghe Trust will be glad to continue to receive funds for ongoing rehabilitation, cultural and social welfare activities undertaken by the Trust.
